__________
The project aimed to design and develop simulation software to improve the organization of transportation vehicles and thus reduce the time and volume of carriers at the plant.
__________
Te SMART UNLOADING OPTIMIZER project arises from the need to reduce the stay times of external transports at the selected car plant. The new legal framework increases penalties for the plant if the time spent by transporters within it exceeds the agreed/estimated time, provided they comply with the established schedules, making it even more urgent and necessary to implement a new logistical system that reduces the time and volume of transporters at the plant, thereby reducing waiting times.
The general objective of this project has been the design and development of simulation software that allows for a proper evaluation and planning of the goods unloading process aimed at reducing the waiting times of loading and unloading vehicles within the framework of Industry 4.0. This new simulation system will represent a faster and more reliable option for organizing the various goods transport vehicles that frequent the company’s facilities and surroundings.
With the development of the digital twin, CT Solutions aims to validate the proposed logistical system, identifying possible bottlenecks or previously undetected needs, and potentially detecting improvements for the future. Since the digital twin will allow us to anticipate potential difficulties or changes before implementation, this results in cost savings and an acceleration of the installation’s start-up.
To achieve this, the digital twin will represent the logistical route to be followed by transporters using the new system, as well as those using the current process, using historical data. This allows the simulator to manage real-case data by applying the new process. Factors such as rest periods for transporters, which will be customizable, and the shift schedule for operators will also be taken into account. As a final result, the 3D simulation model will visualize the movement of trucks currently undergoing processes and the occupancy status of the different areas/zones of the plant through light signals (traffic light type).
The success of this project has been achieved thanks to the leadership of CIAC – Cluster de la Indústria d’Automoció de Catalunya and the consortium formed by all participating companies: CYP Core, an automotive company, CT Solutions Group, and subsidized by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism in the #AEI 2022b call.
